PSYPACT
An interstate compact that lets PSYPACT-authorized psychologists practice telepsychology across participating states without holding a separate license in each state.
What PSYPACT is
PSYPACT (the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact) is an agreement among U.S. states that allows psychologists to provide telepsychology and limited in-person services across state lines without holding a full license in each state. As of 2026, more than 40 states participate, including New Jersey.
What it looks like in practice
A psychologist who is PSYPACT-authorized can see a patient who is physically located in any other PSYPACT state, by video, without needing to be licensed in that state. The psychologist's home-state license plus PSYPACT authorization covers it. Several psychologists at Positive Reset Eatontown are PSYPACT-authorized.
PSYPACT applies to psychologists (PhD, PsyD) only. Other licensed clinicians — LCSWs, LPCs, LMFTs, psychiatrists, advanced-practice nurses — are governed by separate interstate compacts (some still in development) or by state-by-state licensing.
When this matters for you
PSYPACT matters most if you:
- Live in New Jersey but travel to another PSYPACT state for work or school and want continuity of care
- Move out of state mid-treatment and want to keep the same psychologist
- Live in a PSYPACT state without a strong local clinician network and want to see a New Jersey psychologist remotely
If any of these apply, ask our intake team — we can match you with a PSYPACT-authorized psychologist on our team. Standard licensure rules still apply for therapy with non-psychologist clinicians.
